Did you all have a skill in creating applications for simpleLinux (based from Slackware, Slax or other distro)

Do you create a theme for XFCE? you're needed now...

I have written gtk2 themes before. Ive never uploaded any of them to gnome-look, but sure, I could do it. Its just a text file. lol. Give me a background to go off of and I could come up with a decent gtk2 theme for it. Icons are not my thing though.

Get the theme done, and I will try to make some decent icons. Just let me know what to base it off of, your color palette and the general feel you are going for. Also any icon themes similar to what you want would be helpful as well.

The window buttons on the other side are the first things I switched once I installed it. Then I found out it was extremely buggy and after a while wouldn't even connect to the internet and I gave up on it and downgraded back to Jaunty, which worked since it came out. But besides the buttons on the other side, I don't mind it. It's definitely not my favorite though.

There is an argument for evolution... let's use this for example back in bedrock Barnie's beach buggy has square wheels and needless to say can be a bumpy ride.

Meanwhile Fred's new rock coupé has round wheels it's smooth and fast - works better - Barnie is getting some new wheels soon.

Maybe it's a terrible analogy but you might see what I'm getting at...

It's one of them things change you can always stick with the old but evolution may leave you behind.

It's like now every computer manufacturer does gui and mouse etc because they were all good ideas which changed the shape of things across the board.

Design evolves.

but it's not something THAT ground-breaking. i know some peope might like it better, but it's not even much of an improvement, imo. freeing up some space in the window, but using more space in the panel, which i like to use.

I actually prefer having the buttons on the left hand side. You can always change them to the right and change the order using gconf-editor. But the reason they changed sides wasn't to copy mac, but to open up the right hand side of the window to add more buttons. (Window indicators) Many people are complaining about indicators in the windows, but I think it is a good idea.

And in terms of the global menu, it is not being made for the desktop but for the netbook edition. You will be able to enable it on the desktop if you want, but they are adding the feature to save vertical space for the netbook edition. Which once again makes sense. Lastly, the theme looks way better than the Human theme.

Not saying that these things are perfect, but they aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

Its default for netbooks only. On desktop you will be able to install the package to enable the global menu on the desktop, but it will not be default. The only reason they are doing this is to allow another 32px-48px of vertical space, which for a netbook is alot.

The global menu in ubuntu is not a new idea...there was a distribution not long ago called Lin-X... I ran it for a week..this is a screen shot from April 2009. Based on ubuntu whatever..I forget.
I didnt think much of it. Of course I dont think of real OSX either.

Frankly I am disappointed in opendesktop users as a whole. This whole "passing notes" style forum is quite crap. Why not discuss these things in realtime chat? I pay for a dedicated server located in east lansing michigan, and have put TheRob, a respected and contributing member of opendesktop. I have seen many of you stop by, yet none of you seem to grasp the concept of how an irc channel is started. There has to be people there for folks to want to stay. Is leaving an irc client open so much trouble? Since when do GNU/Linux and *BSD users shut their machines down more often than I turn off the lightbulb in my room? I have offered free bnc accounts to those that have access to only netbooks that of course must be shut down. Aside from that, you might as well be using windows :/ . I will be purchasing 5 more ip addresses and adding 5 more vhosts (virtual hosts for bncs and eggdrops) within the next week in addition to the 12 I already have. I wont just pass out shells, sorry. And to get a free bnc account you should probably bother to show up more than once and bother to stay for a bit regularly before you get access to a bnc. I wont even limit your bnc account to my irc network only, you could use it to connect anywhere! Think about it guys, even if you don't dig the #opendesktop channel or the #gnu/linux channel...you could start your own and do what you like with it. Its a win - win situation. I hope to see a few more of you there soon.
