Linux For Recording Artist
Description:

Hello, I am endeavoring to develop or modify an existing Linux Distro that will have the tools to integrate a fully funcional music/photo imaging/video but with the option of eye candy (Unity XFCE KDE) or more text based and simple (LMDE and the like). I am a previous Mac user with an i7 processor, so I like eye candy.

Recently, I looked at AV Linux (I even have it installed to my laptop), but could not download it to my gpt hard drive, so I was rather disappointed. Also I have Knoppix on my laptop and I love it, but it is a little imcomplete.

Maybe you can relate or not. I just want to see if I can find three or four people to throw ideas around..

Well my Russian is kind of bad since I haven't used it for 20 years and never learned to read it. It looks loaded with some awesome things from what I can tell.

Russian is given as an example. Multimedia projects much!
Ubuntu Studio in my opinion the best, if not immediately ready.
On the Forum: Ubuntu Studio has all the answers for use.

No Ubuntu Studio is not the best. So far AV Linux has been the most complete, and jack config works outta the box. Fedora Jam works good, but I am not a yummer fan. There is Studio 64 which is god but a little outdated, and lastly there is Studio 1337 which is works off of your thumb drive.

XXX Studio XXX is a specialized modification. They have a lot of excess. In any Linux you can do this just by reading the documentation. Just right for you, right on the 99% you will not find! For myself, will have to do everything myself. After all, only you know what you need? Or use what others have done themselves, ignoring and correcting deficiencies. The choice is yours!
Studio 1337 - $ 49.99? 8-0 Sell morning mist? =)

Well, I did manage to find 1337 free download from a torrent somewhere, and it works out of the box.

I do not trust such projects (Studio 1337), use is not going to ever! I despise those who sell open-source software!

I have thought about it truthfully, but there is the configuration of jack and a few other midi considerations that I need corroboration on because it would take an eternity figuring it all out. Jack doesn't work out of the box on most Linux distros and it gets really confusing to me at times trying to configure it.

I know what you mean. I use jack1 (0.124) successfully. The main setup you need to do for realtime is edit /etc/security/limits.conf and add:
@audio - rtprio 95
@audio - memlock unlimited
and make sure you're a member of the 'audio' group. qjackctl should then automatically setup a jackd config for you.

Can share my setup if your interested but this is a helpful list even though its aimed at Fedora: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/

Thanks, I might look into this. Thanks for the link. Not really a Fedora fan, but I do know that Fedora Jam works better than Ubuntu Studio. I like Debian a lot, but the installation is brutal. I also like Arch too because it has good support, but I dislike many of the users because they are usually stuck up snobs who think they are inventing the wheel or something.
