I was pretty slow about swithing to linux when I saw what it looked like. What can anyone do about it though if they can't program? (like me) I can't really do much but theme, and that doesn't fix the big problems (like the menus and login) I seems like it needs to have more movement and animation added to it. Compiz can't do everything for gnome.

Gnome can do almost everything. But you have to set it up in the right way.You have to know that linux and especially gnome have a lot of different features, which are ''locked'' and you must ''unlock''/turn on them before you can try them all.

Tell me...What's the problem with menus?

The problem with the menus is that they look worse that win 98. Just flat and plain. GnoMeunu is really slow and doesn't work quite right.

 GNOME Design

Before you start paying out on GNOME too much, remember the basic design is driven by the Gnome HIG. Now, while it isn't remotely about eye candy, it makes it easy for people to start using Gnome right away much the same way you start using a web browser right away before you start to customise it.

A good example was a local drop-in centre where linux was rolled out at the new internet kiosk. Everyone there sat down and started using Gnome without complaining (or noticing) that it wasn't windoze.

Themeing Gnome is as easy as drag-and-drop. I wonder what the group's opinion of Gnome-Shell is then. No more 'basic menus' there. ( has anyone even started using gnome-shell yet? )

...when all the worlds collide.
