boot up windows.

If you had actually been around for a while
you'd notice that every software

Sure they have had a linux problem, but they wouldn't admit it. I got past having problems with most GNU/Linux distributions years ago unless it was purely the distributions fault itself. This is the problem with all of these ubuntu/debian/slackware/fedora/whatever respins... youre getting some crackerjack shitbird distro the not only inherits the bugs from their parent distro but more than likely introduce bugs of their own just because they were to lame to come up with a distro of their own from scratch. This is why I stick with debian, its the second oldest distribution of GNU/Linux still in development (behind slackware by a few months), and it offers the largest collection of compatible software of any opensourced GNU/Linux distro out there. The only other OS that could compare with Debian GNU/Linuxs' apt repos is FreeBSD ports. FreeBSD ports and pkgs is only lacking by a few, and gaining :)

Now please, I dont want to see any of you morons come here talking about WHAT ABOUT YGGDRASSIL!?!?! OMGIEZ!?!?! I SAID DISTRIBUTIONS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT!

Linux Problems Often, get them all the time :]

I am relatively new with only 2 and a half or 3 years penguin time...

I've tried the common distro's like ubuntu, suse, fedora, mandriva, gentoo and a few others but over the weekend I tried to net install Arch for the 4th time and succeeded then installed a gui and it was probably the best distro I've tried so far. The main thing I found though was that when building a decent system you learn a lot more about linux very quickly which is great as with say a distro like ubuntu for instance it's quite possible to remain ignorant about a lot of linux culture but I still like the ease associated with a ready made.

no i only want to make clear that some programs run better under linux than under windows

also that windows is more overflow-sensitive than linux. and apart from the stability. i still choose linux just because i don't get those fuckin "please-update-this" and "new-version-of-blahblahblah-available" linux just updates EVERYTHING with a single click.

and yes I admit linux sometimes freezes, but it's still better than having to reinstall windows over and over again, my record is 7 windows-installations in under 2 weeks!!! just because it crashed that much!

so, you don't get a better firefox on linux, but the same firefox will run better on an better OS.

Great man!!!

Thats the spirit! tell me why you
prefer linux instead of the usual:
ubuntu is better simply because its not
windows.

That's just bullshit and we all know it.

One thing I dislike huge about
windows is it's poor memory handling,
like the page file being huge before even
half the memory is in use???

I mean, *nix has faaaaaar superior
mem management than windows.

However the usual linux is so much better
because you dont get viruses because
its made out of magic..... baaah!
makes me mad to even be here.

If linux had the same position than
windows believe me, it would have
the same amount, nothing magic here.

stick to the facts guys pls.

Still, respect for you for your good
post man!

I would suggest creating your own gtk2 theme and such for the default desktop and maybe customizing the xfce4 panel up a little bit ...it looks pretty default how it is there...its not eye catching at all.

I think gnome is fat and bloated. I dont use it. I am a minimalist type of fellow :P, I would recommend lxde or stick with xfce4 ..both have quite enough features without being full of crap that noone will ever want or use. I myself use openbox, this is a screenshot I took yesterday:

http://tiny.cc/3c84h

That is a minimal debian testing install from a daily snapshot netinst iso. I then used aptitude to install openbox and ONLY the applications I wanted. This is the major problem I have with most distributions of GNU/Linux ..I like to use the applications I need and want, and nothing else. I hate picking through a distribution and uninstalling half of the crap they included. I also dislike distributions that mix gtk2 and qt apps...I myself stick with gtk2 applications. QT apps look like a dumb 3 year old with a fat crayon drew them. GTK2 is also faster and lighter in my opinion. Why should I install qt, kdelibs and half of kde just to use the one or two kde apps that are useful (k3b and vlc)? Especially when brasero and mplayer/gnome-mplayer will do everything that k3b and vlc will do? :/

well, I'm staying, it would be cool
with some more company tho, well I guess
we'd have to hate windows to get company,

I would guess that it would safe to assume that there would be a wide array of topics to have on that channel. Another perk is, if you dont like whats going on in the channel, you can start your own with a more specific purpose. :)
