Facts:
#1 Every people uses Windows should once said "WOW! Windows is extraordinarily fast" before their hard disk are getting fragmented and (alas) become "Para-normally Sucking Balls"

#2 See your pretty face when your works just crashed without any possible backups

#3 Most of virus spread to other computers are via (bloody-hell) autorun function.

#4 Anti-Virus are mainly designed for Windows before they're ported to Unix.

#5 DOS never says 'EXCELLENT command or filename'

#6 I think MS named ".Net" so it wouldn't show up in a Unix directory listing.

#7 You expected the "Plug n Play" works, instead, "Plug n Install Drivers n Restart n Play"

No, it's not with Linux. Not really. A while ago a friend of mine got a new Dell Inspiron laptop and since I was always talking about Linux, he wanted to try Linux on the computer. So I set up a dual-boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. He needed a wireless Ethernet driver but other than that he really liked it. Especially the Compiz effects. He booted back into Windows 7 that night, shut it down, then started it back up later and it gave an error. This was a while ago and I can't remember what the exact error was, but I remember GRUB gave the error and the GRUB menu wouldn't come up. So I looked into the problem. It turns out he had McAfee (or however you spell it) Antivirus installed and it overwrote that partition with crap. I talked to a friend about it and apparently McAfee stores data on a different partition and the boot sector just happened to be on that partition. From then on he would not listen to me because 'I FUCKED UP HIS COMPUTER!!!11oneone'. After I spent a bunch of time researching the problem and finding out exactly how to fix it, he calls Dell customer service and they tell him he has to back up all of his files, send in the computer, and buy a new hard drive for it. When I looked into it and found out I could restore the Windows MBR if I got ahold of a Windows 7 DVD. But it doesn't end there. He gets his computer back a few weeks later and starts telling people how much Linux sucks because it fucked up his computer. Now just about every person I know who doesn't know shit about computers thinks Linux sucks because of this idiot.

Oh, I forgot to mention the first part of this story. Before he even bought the computer, he came to me asking about Windows. I told him about all its flaws and how M$ is really ripping him off. Dell gave an option to ship Ubuntu with that computer but he got Windows 7 on it anyway in total disregard to what I said. I didn't let that anger me much since it happens all the time. But then he started getting BSODs like twice a day. He's still getting them. And then we go through that problem with GRUB and McAfee.

So how do I respond to these ignorant retards when they start bashing Linux? Here's how conversations usually go:

*friend complains about some common windows problem*

Me: "You should try Linux. I've been saying for years. I've been using it for years. I've never had any of the problems you've ever complained about."

Ignorant friend: "Yeah, but it fucked up his hard drive so it sucks."

Me: "No, McAfee fucked up his hard drive."

Ignorant friend: "Then how come everything worked until you installed Linux?"

Me: "First of all, it wasn't working fine. It kept BSODing. Second, how was he able to boot Ubuntu as many times as he wanted then only be able to boot Windows once before everything exploded?"

Ignorant friend: "Because Linux hates Windows. Windows is a glorious angel descended from the heavens here to give us a better computer experience. Linux is a demon sent by satan himself to destroy what makes our computers evil. And it has no gamez... derp <_> derp herp derp ~~~." (not exactly original content, but this is long and I have to make it more interesting)

Me: "Do you even know what happened to the hard drive? Do I have to explain it again? Or are you just going to ignore me and spread your uneducated lies around?"

The ignorant friend will then attempt to repeat what I told him word for word but since it's extremely hard to memorize one of my monologues, he can't do it and then go on to talk with a different friend about boobs or something.

Sometimes this friend is the guy who's computer I fucked up, sometimes it's someone else, sometimes it's both at the same time. Is there any way I can get them to shut up about it? I don't want them telling everyone Linux sucks because of a retarded antivirus program. Anyone here ever had something like this happen?

Sometimes, being so noob without wanting to learn more, is not good. So you could use Windows because they suck your money to give something that is easy to understand. Windows is easy to understand. I'm so agree. The more you understand about Windows, the more you know the vulnerability of it. Look at the biggest Linux operating system user, it is Google! for it self.

They also develop Chrome OS. A so popular OS, also based from Linux. Then, you can be just nothing by following 100% of proprietary OS. You'll never success without learning.

Are you saying I should use Windows to further understand it? I'm forced to use Windows. The school's network is only Windows. They have Macs but put Windows on the Macs as well. So I don't even get an option of what to use unless I bring my netbook to school. I've researched Windows' flaws enough to give my idiot friends a valid argument but they know nothing so they give me a comeback similar to 'your mom' or 'it's just better' or some crap like that. The point is they won't listen. And it wouldn't bother me as much if they didn't spread around lies like 'linux sucks'.

Not quite the same prob but a couple years back I did some consultancy for a local community drop-in centre that was outfitting itself with computers and setting up an internet cafe for the residents who drop in.

I suggested linux for the obvious reasons and took along a few live CDs (Fedora, Knoppix & Ubu) to demonstrate. Most were quite immediately impressed - especially with the lack of cost. But there were two who obviously had already made up their minds to go with Win. There was no convincing them.

Some people need to go with what they know, or what they think they know.

P.S. The centre ended up with a Debian server and Ubu desktops. The dissenters were outvoted.

Yeah, you're lucky he wasn't so freaked out you weren't allowed to touch it again. Sounds like your friend actually has some logic. I mean seriously, who knows what happened more than the person that screwed it up in the first place? Not even Dell knew what the fuck happened yet a high-school senior using Ubuntu did.

 went trolling on m$ website...

by Padster on: Nov 7 2010

Score 63%

I went to take a look around, to see what crap they put up now, or in case a survey came up so I could have some more fun with that kind of thing :D
anyway, so these articles I looked at had "was this helpful" thing, so I put no for them all and said that windows sucks, it would be more helpful if it said some stuff about Linux instead.
then this one article "PCs vs Macs" (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows7/products/compare?T1=tab21
I was typing a long response to it, but it limited my answer :(
what I was going to type: FAIL. Firstly, it looks like this whole article is talking about stupid M$ Windows. It says "PCs vs Macs". PC does not mean Windows. This makes all arguments void. But if you substitute "PC" for "Windows", then I guess you could compare them. Secondly, a lot of this stuff is just opinionated crap. "[Windows] just work[s]." That's one opinion, in my experience, Windows doesn't "just work". It said Windows was intuitive and familiar. It may be familiar if you've used it a lot before, but you can't just say your product is familiar. Also, I don't find it intuitive or easy to use, it's confusing and since I use better operating systems, different flavours of Linux, it's not familiar, either. 3rd: How can you say "PCs are willing and able to get down to business"? PCs are hardware, you mean the hardware is more capable of getting down to business than that of a Mac? How so? ...
Oh, I forgot I was ranting about Windows, not PCs. Anyway, the 5th point, that Windows is good for file sharing, well, Linux can do that, and Mac probably can, too.
6th: Most software is developed for PCs. So they make Windows/Linux/Unix/BSD versions, and boycott Mac? Well, I can understand it with Windows, but, again, don't say PC when you mean Windows.
The last point: Choice and customizability. "Pick a color you love. Midnight blue, espresso, or pink? PCs offer the most variety and options to match your style or price point." LOL. Just lol. They are trying to say Windows is good for customizing? take a look at it versus Linux. Windows' customizing is almost non-existent compared to it. Changing the window tint and wallpaper? OH YEAH! No. *shakes head* No.

Anyway, so I only put the first 2 or so points, it wouldn't let me do the whole thing. But I linked this group so they could read the whole thing :D
And then when I hit "submit" it said "Thank you. Your feedback helps us to continually improve our content." Good. Their content SUCKS.

On a side note, I came across this screen of IE9: http://skodwarde.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ie9working.png
Looks like a cross between a Google Chrome rip-off and a really primitive browser. It seems from some research into "why ie9 sucks" that they removed the search bar, so that you search things in the address bar, and it takes you to the 1st result, like Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky". But what if it gets it wrong, or you actually wanted to search it? Go to a search engine's website, I guess. And it uses Bing, no doubt. Then putting the tabs beside the address bar, how much room does that give you? Maybe room for 2 max on a smaller resolution, or 5 or 6 on a mid-res. If you have a big monitor you may even get up to 10. Impressive.

Anyway, that was nice, another little rant on Windows. Oh, anyone hear about M$ trying to make a few companies in Taiwan pay royalties on Windows for their netbooks even though they use Android, or something else? Something about them infringing on copyrights because they use a syncing service with emails or something. M$ is so evil sometimes.

Either way they aren't telling the truth. Both Linux and Mac are way most customizable than Windows when it comes to either hardware or software.

It's for the rich, for me, I could only prefer an x86 powered by Linux

Everybody loves Windows, yeah, everybody loves it because of its fresh air, and hell, I love my door also...

yeah, i saw that. it's good in a way, too. now some people who haven't heard of openoffice know of it. and it shows that m$ thinks it's worth launching a campaign of lies against us. it shows they think there's a legitimate competition. :)
